The reader is then taken through his life - a normal one growing up with no major traumas. Even a happy childhood as childhoods go. It is when he is older that he becomes such a disappointment - he marries and cheats on his wife. Divorces, marries again and cheats on this wife too. This seems to be a pattern through three wives. He becomes ill and must have repeated surgeries in his later life. He also feels alone and cut off from his family. He has a heart attack and dies during one of the surgeries and that is the end of the book.
This book was very well written, just extremely sad to read. I don't know why the author named the book as he did. I know that this isn't what happens to Every Man - many people are happier than this and many people don't cheat on their wives.
Read the book because it is well written. Don't read it because it is a morally uplifting story - because it is not.
